FreezePen cryotherapy at GLIF Medical is a non-surgical treatment for certain benign skin lesions, offered by Dr Peguy Télusma, MD, in Montreal, at CA$50.00 for a 15-minute session.
How the treatment works
The treatment uses FreezePen technology, a cryotherapy device that applies nitrous oxide at a very low temperature directly to the lesion being treated. The intense cold precisely destroys the targeted tissue while preserving the surrounding tissue. The device can treat certain benign lesions such as warts, skin tags, seborrheic keratoses, certain selected benign spots, and other lesions depending on the medical evaluation. The extreme cold targets the surface lesion while limiting the effect on adjacent healthy tissue, allowing for a localized, precise treatment with no cutting instrument. Unlike surgical excision, no stitches are needed after the treatment.
FreezePen is a handheld device that allows precise control over the duration and intensity of the application, a feature useful for small lesions or those located near sensitive areas such as around the eyes.
Who it’s for
This treatment suits people with one or more confirmed benign skin lesions who want a quick, precise, non-surgical option for having them treated. A medical evaluation is required before any session to confirm the diagnosis and determine whether cryotherapy is the appropriate treatment for the lesion in question. This step also helps rule out any suspicious lesion that would instead need a thorough dermatological work-up before any cosmetic treatment.
- A single wart or multiple warts, confirmed by the physician
- A skin tag bothersome for cosmetic or mechanical reasons (rubbing, clothing)
- A stable seborrheic keratosis with no recent change in appearance
- Warts
- Skin tags
- Seborrheic keratoses
- Certain selected benign spots
What to expect and recovery
The standard session lasts 15 minutes, at CA$50.00, and covers one lesion. Depending on the number and size of lesions to be treated, a longer session (up to 30 minutes) may be needed; the duration and price are then adjusted accordingly and confirmed during the medical evaluation. The treatment is described as quick, precise, comfortable, and safe, with little to no downtime. A brief sensation of intense cold, sometimes with mild, short-lived discomfort, may be felt during application, without requiring anesthesia.
Expected results
Improvement in the appearance of the treated lesion depends on its type, size, and depth. The number of sessions needed for a satisfactory result is determined during the medical evaluation, with no result guaranteed. A prior medical evaluation remains essential to confirm the diagnosis and rule out any lesion requiring a different form of care.
Mild redness or a small temporary scab may appear on the treated area in the days following the session, before fading naturally. The physician provides simple aftercare instructions to follow during this period.
As with any medical treatment, certain health or skin conditions may call for particular caution; these are reviewed during the prior evaluation, before any decision to treat the lesion in question.
