Botox at GLIF Medical is a neuromodulator treatment that temporarily relaxes targeted facial muscles, offered by Dr Peguy Télusma, MD, in Montreal.
How the treatment works
Botox® (type A botulinum toxin) works by temporarily blocking nerve signals to the injected muscle, which reduces its contraction. This mechanism can soften certain expression lines and address other precise indications, such as jaw shape, smile line, or tension in certain neck and shoulder muscles. The product is delivered through a series of small injections directly into the targeted muscle; the number of units and injection points vary depending on whether the goal is aesthetic, such as softening a line, or functional, such as reducing muscle tension. Each treatment is personalized to the target area, the amount of product required, and the goals of the person being treated.
Who it’s for
This treatment suits people looking to soften expression lines, adjust certain facial contours, or address a specific functional concern, such as bruxism, a gummy smile, or muscle tension. A prior medical evaluation determines the areas to treat, the appropriate dose, and confirms there are no contraindications. This evaluation takes into account the person’s medical history as well as realistic expectations for the treatment.
What to expect and recovery
The injection is performed in clinic with fine needles and generally takes a few minutes. The price is set per unit injected, at $11 per unit, with the total amount varying by area and treatment goal. Mild redness, discomfort, or slight temporary swelling can occur at the injection site, with no significant downtime. It’s generally recommended to avoid rubbing the treated area and to remain upright for a few hours after the injection.
Expected results
The effect of Botox® appears gradually over the days following injection and is temporary; how long it lasts varies from person to person depending on metabolism, the dose administered, and the area treated. Follow-up is offered to adjust treatment over time and plan any desired maintenance injections. No result is guaranteed, as every treatment is individualized based on Dr Peguy Télusma’s medical evaluation.
Precautions
As with any neuromodulator treatment, a full medical evaluation precedes each session to confirm there are no contraindications, particularly in cases of pregnancy, breastfeeding, a known neuromuscular disorder, or an active infection in the area to be treated. Fully disclosing medical history and current medications helps ensure a safe treatment tailored to each person.
Lip Flip with Botox
The Lip Flip uses Botox® to slightly relax the orbicularis muscle around the mouth, allowing the upper lip to turn out subtly, without filler. The goal is a more visible lip and a more balanced-looking smile, with a natural result. The procedure is quick and requires no downtime. Price: $100, approximately 15 minutes.
Gummy Smile Treatment
The gummy smile treatment aims to reduce excess gum exposure when smiling, using a few targeted Botox® injections into the muscles that lift the upper lip. The goal is a more balanced-looking smile, with a natural result and a quick treatment, with no downtime. Price: $120, approximately 15 minutes.
Trapezius Botox, Trap Tox
Trap Tox targets the trapezius muscles when they are hypertrophied or tense, aiming to relax the area and improve the appearance of the neck and shoulders. Injections can be performed with different neuromodulator agents, Botox®, Dysport, Nuceiva, or Xeomin, depending on clinical evaluation. This is an essentially cosmetic use of this neuromodulator, outside its approved medical indications, discussed openly during the prior evaluation. Cost varies with the amount of product used: 60 units at $660, 80 units at $880, or 100 units at $1,100. Approximately 30 minutes. As with other neuromodulator indications, the effect is temporary and maintenance injections are generally offered to sustain the result.
